This media is designed to remove iron, manganese, and sulfur. These three (3) contaminants are common to many well waters. Iron stains are reddish/brown, Manganese stains are grayish/black and Sulfur smells like rotten eggs. They do not really pose a health problem as much as an aesthetic problem. The staining of tubs, basins, sinks, fixtures, and the inability to wash whites can be very problematic. Therefore, the removal of these pollutants will extend the lifespan of everything that the water comes in contact with and makes keeping things clean a lot easier.
